Our Central Pursuit
The future of ethical AI depends less on controlling intelligence and more on shaping the information environments from which intelligence reasons.
CPI studies what we call Moral Information Architecture: the design of information structures, knowledge representations, retrieval systems, and decision environments that influence ethical reasoning and human flourishing in both biological and artificial intelligences.
We view information architecture as a foundational layer connecting intelligence, ethics, medicine, governance, and the human sciences. Our work seeks to understand how information becomes knowledge, how knowledge becomes decisions, and how decisions shape individual and societal flourishing.
From biomarkers of brain development to clinical AI systems, our research investigates how information shapes minds, decisions, and human flourishing.
The Origins of CPI
From Brain Signals to Ethical AI
Founding Director William J. Bosl, PhD developed novel biomarkers of neurodevelopmental, psychiatric, and neurological conditions using nonlinear analysis of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals. This work demonstrated that clinically meaningful properties of cognition, development, and brain function can emerge from the analysis of complex biological information systems.
This same research has led to CPI's founding thesis: intelligent systems do not act directly upon reality—they act upon information.
Therefore, understanding how information is represented, organized, retrieved, and interpreted may be as important as understanding intelligence itself.
