DEGREE PROGRAM Descriptions & Objectives

B.S.

The B.S. in Applied C.S. program at Catholic Polytechnic University introduces programming, computer theory, computing problems and solutions and the design of computer systems, accompanied with a strong humanities core. The B.S. program includes instruction in the principles of computational science, computer development and programming, and applications to a variety of end-use situations.

The primary goal of the B.S. in Applied C.S. curriculum is to introduce and instill computer science concepts that are commensurate with undergraduate-level coursework, where theories and practice are introduced and woven together. Students are not expected to have previous technical skills in order to enter this computer science program.

M.S.

An M.S. in Applied C.S. program at Catholic Polytechnic University emphasizes depth of studies on computer theory, computing problems and solutions and the design of computer systems. The M.S. program includes instruction in the principles of computational science, computer development and programming, and applications to a variety of end-use situations.

The primary goal of the M.S. in Applied C.S. curriculum is to inculcate an advanced computer science concept that is commensurate with graduate-level coursework, where theories and practice are balanced. Graduate students are expected to have a technical undergraduate degree or demonstration of adequate skill set to take on the rigor of a graduate computer science program.
